A journey in food & culture across Turkey & the Middle East
Join the journey from the beginning!
Welcome to Meze, a window into the explorations of a Norwegian food writer based in Istanbul. Here, we dive into the local food and culture of Turkey, the Middle East and beyond – with more than a glimpse from life in Istanbul as well. Grab yourself a glass of ayran and let’s get started!
Every Wednesday, I post a short essay along with links to a few recipes. Topics range from stories about local food cultures to deep dives on ingredients, travel notes from the region, seasonal recipe round-ups or simply an update on life in Istanbul.
Every Friday, I share a new recipe – a selection of the best and most popular recipes from my three cookbooks (which aren’t currently available in English) or simply something I’m really enjoying these days. Expect famous classics, hidden gems and modern interpretations.
The Wednesday newsletter is free, while the Friday recipe is a bonus for paying subscribers. Paid subscriptions are what enables med to send out these newsletters, but is completely optional.
Behind the keyboard and camera (and occasionally in front of it) is Vidar Bergum, food writer based in Istanbul since 2015. I’ve published three cookbooks in my native Norway and also run the blog A kitchen in Istanbul.
Still reading but haven’t yet signed up? Let me help you with that:
All the best and look forward to keeping in touch.
